The Beauty of Aperture

Bokeh Example 1, originally uploaded by kamikaze productions.

Aperture is a beautiful thing. Illustrated above is a lens operating at an aperture of f/1.4. The result a subject in focus and everything else blurred out. I will speak more about aperture later, in terms of an explanation and information on reading aperture numbers and when to use what. For this posting however, I wanted to showcase the fact that I got my new lens! – Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM.

Take a look at a couple of the quick example shots I took tonight.

As you can see, a maximum aperture of 1.4 can do some magical things. Sorry the pictures aren’t artistic, was just trying to show off and give a good example of the power behind this lens. Stay tuned and I will explain more on aperture.

man that 1.4 is so much nicer than my 1.8. It was fun imitating your shots on ASR. What camera did you shoot those pictures with?
